Scar Treatment Consultation

The scar is a physiological mechanism of tissue repair that occurs after an injury to restore normal tissue anatomy and function. In addition to the aesthetic and emotional issues related with scars, they can cause pain, movement and flexibility limitations, muscle atrophy, among others. The physiotherapist intervention is essential to avoid the appearance of these complications or to treat them if they already exist.

There are different types of scars, such as atrophic, keloid and hypertrophic, each one is different and have their one characteristics, the therapeutic approach must be different. The physiotherapist intervention involves rating the scar in terms of depth, thickness, color, mobility, adhesions and changes in the surrounding tissues, after a treatment plan will be prepared according to patients and to their particular clinical situation.

It is important to find a qualified professional to treat these clinical conditions, or there is the risk of worsening the patient condition, once the characteristics of the healing process must be taken into account.

Phlebology Treatment with Cold Bands

Phlebology is a medical field that is focused specifically on venous disease. A collection of data made by World Health Organization (WHO), showed that diseases associated with veins are among the most frequent in the world. The feeling of heavy, swollen legs and pain, especially at the end of the day, can be symptoms of venous dysfunction. These dysfunctions occur due a changes in venous return and can be manifested by mild symptoms or severe limitations.

In the treatment bands soaked in a solution with cooling, vasoconstrictor and vasotonic properties will be applied. This treatment provides a feeling of lightness, helping to reduce swelling and pain. However, it is always recommended to consult a doctor specializing in angiology or vascular surgery for additional tests.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic drainage is a procedure performed by qualified physiotherapists with the purpose of reactivate the lymphatic system, allowing the mobilization of excess of fluid and accumulated waste in the tissues.

The purpose of lymphatic drainage is to create pressure variations on the system that lead to contraction of the lymphatic system vessels musculature, leading to an increase in the flow of lymph and interstitial fluid towards the nodes. The nodes work as filters and are important elements of immune defence.

This treatment is indicated in post vascular surgery, post plastic surgery, varicose veins, swelling associated with musculoskeletal injuries, lymphedema, venous insufficiency, among other problems.

In the first session, the therapist will evaluate the patient and the treatment plan will be determined, which includes the number of sessions, as well as the frequency of these sessions, according to the clinical case of each patient.

Osteopathy

It is a manual therapy focused on the patient’s neuro-musculoskeletal system. Osteopathy is based on the principle that the wellbeing of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together. For an osteopath, the body to function well needs the structure to be working properly.

Osteopaths use physical manipulation, stretching and massage with the aim of: increasing the mobility of joints, relieving muscle tension, reducing pain, enhancing the blood supply to tissues and helping the body to heal. Also part of the osteopathic approach is exercise advice, ergonomic suggestions, posture and healthy lifestyle habits.
Most people who book an osteopath treatment do so for help with conditions such as: lower back pain; neck pain; shoulder pain and elbow pain (for example, tennis elbow); arthritis; problems with the pelvis, hips and legs; sports injuries; muscle and joint pain.
